The way an image looks when it’s out of focus can be just as important as when it’s in focus.

The combination of an anamorphic lens’ powered and non-powered axes lends an elliptical shape to out-of-focus elements within the image, explains Panavision senior vice president of optical engineering Dan Sasaki.
